An ongoing practise in creativity through improvisation.

It's taken me nine volumes to really feel like I don't need to contain the world in each piece. The improvisations on this record tend to explore one or two things at a time, a feeling, a kind of groove, a set of colours. Some return to ideas generated by previous ones to develop them further.

I've become intrigued by the idea of a 'dance' in music, and deliberately tried different ways to express this theme. 'Dance' to me means human movement; it can be traditional, codified by culture, improvised in the club by people with no training or concept, or finely orchestrated. It can be driven by a constant rhythm or entirely free form. How can I express this from my piano stool? What happens in the space between pulse and fluidity? What impetus in sound drives the human body to move? We say that trees and flags seem to dance in the wind--is wind to these things what music is to people?

Only questions today. I'm looking for answers to a lot of different kinds of questions in these improvisations, but with no great intent to find them. Looking--asking--feels good, and that's enough for me for now.
